Note: Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan should turn on).
1. Apply the parking brake and chock the wheels. Start the engine, then shift to position D while depressing the brake pedal. Depress the accelerator pedal sharply and release it. The engine must not stall.
2. Carry out the test in the P position. Park the car on a slope (approximately 16"), apply the parking brake and shift to position P. Release the brake; the vehicle must not move.
3. Road test the vehicle on a level road in the position shown in the table. Check that the engine RPM is approximately the same as the vehicle speed shown in the table below.
Note: Throttle position sensor voltage represents the throttle valve opening angle.
1. Remove the wheel arch panel to gain access to the PCM during a road test.
2. Connect a digital multitester and check the voltage at the throttle position sensor between terminal C27 (+) and B20 (-) or B22 (-) PCM module.
