Warning! Do not smoke while working on the fuel system. Do not create sparks or open flames in the workplace.
1. Connect a tachometer.
2. Start the engine. Maintain RPM at 3000 rpm with no load (in Park or Neutral), until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
3. Check the idle speed. (see above).
4. Warm up and calibrate the CO meter according to the manufacturer's instructions.
5. Check the concentration of CO at idle speed by turning off the headlights, fan, rear window defroster, cooling fan and air conditioner.
CO content:
Models with TWC: | 0.1% max. |
Models without TWC: | 1.0±1.0% max. |
If the CO content is above the allowable limit:
- Models without TWC: adjust by turning the IMA adjusting screw.
- Models with TWC: See ECM/PCM Troubleshooting Guide.
If it is not possible to achieve the specified CO concentration by this procedure, check the engine adjustment.
