Rocker Arms and Axles — Checking Clearances

Measure the rocker arms for both the intake and exhaust valves.

1. Measure the axle diameter at the location of the first rocker arm.



2. Set the inside gauge to zero on the axle diameter.



3. Measure the inner diameter of the rocker arm and check for signs of ovality.



Clearance between rocker arm and axle:

• Inlet: 0.017-0.050mm
• Outlet: 0.018-0.054mm
• Limit: 0.08mm

4. Repeat the test for all rocker arms. If the gap is significant, replace the axle and all rocker arms that are worn beyond the redistribution.
