Warning!
- Do not start the engine when the electrolyte level in the battery is low. There is a risk of battery failure.
- Do not start the engine in a garage or other poorly ventilated area. Exhaust gas accumulates in the cabin or room and there is a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Depress the brake pedal when starting the engine.
1. Make sure the parking brake is applied.
2. Models with MCP.
Place the shift lever in neutral position.
Models with automatic transmission
Make sure the selector lever is in position «R».
3. Fully depress the brake pedal. On models with a manual gearbox, the clutch pedal is also fully depressed.
4. Without depressing the accelerator pedal, turn on the starter to start the engine.
Clutch
Models with MCP. Do not start the starter without fully depressing the clutch pedal.
Note:
- It is easier to start the engine if you turn off such powerful consumers of electricity as lighting, air conditioning, rear window defroster.
- To avoid discharging the battery, do not let the starter operate continuously for more than 15 seconds. If within 15 sec. the engine did not start, it is necessary to set the ignition key to the position «I», wait at least 10 sec. and restart.
- If the engine is warm, starting time may be longer. In this case, it is recommended to start the engine with the accelerator pedal halfway down. After starting the engine, release the accelerator pedal.
- After starting the engine, as a result of the operation of the engine management system, the engine speed increases, and then automatically decreases to the optimum level.
