Note. To view the wiring diagram of the fuel level sensor, see the wiring diagram of the gauges.
1. Check the operation of the electric fuse No. 10 (7,5 A) METER in the electrical relay/fuse box under the instrument panel prior to testing.
2. Check for body electrical DTCs.
- If no faults are found, go to step 3.
- If DTC B1175 or B1176 is found, proceed to troubleshoot according to the indicated DTC.
3. Turn the ignition key to position «OFF».
4. Remove the center console and parking brake lever A.
5. Remove access panel A from the floor.
6. Disconnect the 4P connector B from the fuel tank.
7. Turning the ignition key to position «ON» (II), measure the voltage between terminals No. 1 and 3 of connector 4P of the fuel tank unit. There should be battery voltage.
- If the voltage is OK, go to step 8.
- If the voltage is not as specified, check for: short circuit to «mass» in the GRN wire. o a break in the GRN or ORN wires.
8. Turn the ignition key to position «OFF».
9. Remove the fuel tank assembly from the tank.
10. Measure the resistance between terminals No. 1 and No. 3 of the 4P connector of the fuel tank unit when the float is in the E positions (empty), «LOW» (low fuel indicator), 1/2 (half full) and F (full).
If you do not get the specified values, replace the fuel gauge transmitter unit.
float position | Resistance (Ohm) | |
F | 87.5 mm | from 19 to 21 |
1/2 | 42.9 mm | from 204.2 to 209.2 |
LOW | 12.5mm | from 602 to 615 |
E | 9.4mm | from 773 to 787 |
11. Connect the 4P fuel tank connector.
12. Remove fuse #16 BACK UP (15 A) from the engine compartment relay/fuse box for at least 10 seconds, then reinstall it.
13. Turn on the ignition by turning the key to position «ON» (II).
14. Verify that the fuel level gauge indicates «F», and the float is in position F.
- If the fuel level gauge does not show «F», replace the instrument panel.
- If the sensor is OK, the test is complete.
Note. Regardless of the fuel level, the fuel gauge pointer returns down the dial gauge when the ignition switch is in the «OFF».
Remove electrical fuse No. 16 «BACK UP» (15 A) from the engine compartment relay/fuse box for at least 10 seconds after troubleshooting is complete, otherwise you may need to wait up to 20 minutes for the fuel gauge to show the correct level.
