To ensure smooth shifting, all forward gears are synchronized. The locking device prevents direct shifting from any forward gear to reverse gear if the vehicle is traveling faster than a certain predetermined speed.
Disengage the clutch completely when changing gears. After shifting the gearshift lever to the next gear position, gently release the clutch pedal. Do not keep your foot on the clutch pedal while driving in any gear. This can lead to rapid wear of the clutch parts.
Engage reverse gear only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop. Attempting to engage reverse gear while the vehicle is moving could damage the transmission. Before engaging reverse gear, fully disengage the clutch and pause briefly for a few seconds. Instead of a short pause, you can engage and disengage one of the forward gears and then immediately move the lever to the reverse gear position. The described techniques for engaging the reverse gear make it possible to prevent shock engagement of the gear due to the residual rotation of the gears.
You can use engine braking to slow the vehicle down by shifting the transmission to one of the lower gears. Engine braking keeps the vehicle speed at a safe level and prevents the brakes from overheating when driving down long, steep grades. After engaging the downshift, monitor the engine speed using the tachometer. The tachometer needle should not enter the red zone of the scale. In all cases, you should be guided by the values of the maximum permissible speed of the vehicle in various gears.
Warning! When driving on slippery roads, severe deceleration or excessive acceleration can cause you to lose control of your vehicle and cause an accident that could result in injury.
Attention! Be especially careful if the condition of the road surface does not ensure its reliable adhesion to the wheels of the car.
Attention! Do not keep your hand on the gear lever while driving. Hand pressure on the lever can cause premature wear of the shift mechanism.
For some vehicle variants
If the vehicle is equipped with an aluminum alloy shift lever, the vehicle may become very hot after being parked for a long time on a sunny summer day. Be careful. On the contrary, at low air temperatures, the lever cools noticeably.
Shift Recommendations
Drive in the highest gear that allows the engine to run smoothly while driving smoothly and allow the vehicle to accelerate smoothly. Following this recommendation will ensure high fuel efficiency of the car and the efficient operation of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system. When shifting gears, refer to the vehicle speeds below.
Engine 1.4 l and 1.8 l
Vehicles equipped with a diesel engine
The vehicle is equipped with a speed indicator, which allows you to immediately notice the approach of the tachometer needle to the unacceptable red zone while driving.
Maximum vehicle speeds in various gears
The tables below show the maximum permissible vehicle speeds in various gears. If you exceed the specified speeds, the tachometer needle will go into the red zone of the scale, indicating an unacceptably high engine speed. At the same time, the electronic unit that controls the operation of the engine systems begins to limit the speed of the crankshaft, reducing the fuel supply. You can feel it by changing the mode of operation of the engine. As soon as the tachometer needle leaves the red zone of the scale, the engine will return to normal.
To avoid engine damage, before downshifting, make sure that the vehicle speed does not exceed the maximum permitted speed in low gear.
Reverse gear lock
The interlock is designed to prevent accidental shifting from any forward gear to reverse gear while the vehicle is moving at a certain predetermined speed. If you cannot engage reverse gear while the vehicle is stationary, follow the steps below.
1. Press the clutch pedal, move the lever in the direction of the first / second gear (while the lever is not removed from the neutral position), then engage reverse gear.
2. If reverse gear still does not engage, apply the parking brake and turn the ignition key to the «ACCESSORY» (I) or «LOCK» (0).
3. Depress the clutch pedal and engage reverse gear.
4. Without releasing the clutch pedal, start the engine.
If you had to use this procedure, then the car may be faulty. Contact the dealer's service center.
