Warning! The vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with the SRS Supplemental Safety System, better known as the airbag. Before doing any work near the cushion or steering column assembly, be sure to turn off the system to avoid injury from accidental operation (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment).
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Disable airbag (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment).
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Remove the lower trim section of the center console (see chapter Body).
3. Remove the stereo (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment).
4. Turn out screws of fastening of a deflector of an air duct of the central console, take a deflector and give four screws of fastening of assembly of the panel of management of operation of a heater/air conditioner (see accompanying illustration).
5. Remove the control assembly and disconnect its wiring connector. Disconnect the interior air mixing control cable from the control lever (see accompanying illustration).
6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
7. Start the engine and check for proper functioning of the heating and air conditioning systems.
Adjustment
Air mixing control cable
Civic Models
1. To adjust the drive cable, disconnect it from the heater valve actuating lever in the engine compartment. Disconnect the cable from the air mixing lever of the control assembly under the instrument panel in the passenger compartment.
2. Move the temperature control lever to the maximum cooling position (MAX COOL), then gently pull on the cable sheath and close the shutter, making sure that all the slack in the cable is taken up.
3. While holding the air mix control lever fully depressed, snap the drive cable into the retainer clip.
4. In the engine compartment, move the valve actuator to the fully closed position and connect the cable. Without releasing the lever, take up the slack in the cable by pulling on its sheath, then install the retaining clip.
Integra Models
1. Release the drive cable from the control lever retainer clip.
2. Move the temperature control lever to the position of maximum heating intensity (MAX HEAT), then turn the air mixing control lever and connect the cable.
3. Pull the cable sheath back away from the lug, taking out all the slack in the cable, then secure the cable with a clamp.
Heater valve drive cable
1. Disconnect the cable from the valve lever in the engine compartment. Disconnect the air mixing control cable from the control lever under the instrument panel.
2. Move the temperature control lever to the position of maximum heating intensity (MAX HEAT), turn the handle to the cable and fix the latter with a clamp. Pressing the tip of the cable against the stop, snap the air mixing control cable into the clip.
3. In the engine compartment, move the valve actuating lever to the fully closed position and connect the cable. Without releasing the lever, take up the slack in the cable by pulling on its sheath, then install the retaining clip.
