1. If the crankshaft is already installed: Install the crankshaft at TDC of each cylinder. Remove the connecting rod caps and place short lengths of rubber hose onto the threaded ends of the connecting rod bolts.
Install the ring compression guide, check that the liner is securely in place, then insert the piston into the cylinder and, using the wooden handle of a hammer, tap the piston into the cylinder.
Stop when the ring compression guide clicks free and check the alignment of the connecting rod and crank journal before pushing the piston into place.
Install the connecting rod caps with liners and tighten the nuts, while:
Engines А16А2, В16А4, В16А5, В16А6:
Mcr. =40 Nm (4.1 kgf·m)
Apply engine oil to the threaded parts of the bolts.
Other engines:
Mcr. = 31 Nm (3.2 kgf·m)
Apply engine oil to the threaded parts of the bolts.
2. If the crankshaft is not installed:
Remove the connecting rod caps and bearings, install a guide to compress the rings, then install the piston into the cylinder and, tapping it with a wooden hammer handle, insert the piston into the cylinder.
Place all pistons at top dead center.
Note: Support the rings with downward force on the ring compression guide to prevent the rings from spreading before installing them in the cylinder bore.
