2. If the pump is damaged, it should be repaired or replaced. There are three ways to control the operation of the pump without removing it from the engine.
3. With the engine running, warmed up to normal temperature, pinch the upper radiator hose by hand. If the pump is working properly, you will feel the resistance created by the pressure of the coolant.
Caution: Keep your hands out of reach of the fan blades.
4. There are ventilation holes on the pump body. If the pump seals are damaged, coolant will leak through it. In most cases, you will need a mirror and a light to locate this opening and leaks through it.
5. If the pump bearings are damaged, a characteristic noise can be heard. If the pulley shaft moves up and down, the shaft is worn. Do not confuse sounds from bearings and belt slip.
