Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
2. Unlock and unscrew the axle shaft nut (photo).
3. Raise the car, unscrew the axle shaft nut and remove the wheel.
4. Drain the oil from the differential case. The oil does not need to be drained if only the left axle shaft is removed on CR-Vs and 4-cylinder Odysseys, or the right axle shaft on 6-cylinder Odysseys.
5. Disconnect the stabilizer links from the rack (or from suspension arm).
6. On CR-V and 4-cylinder Odysseys, remove the tie bolt and through bolt and remove the fork from the strut.
7. Unpin and unscrew the ball joint nut, press the ball joint out of the suspension arm.
8. Remove the ball joint from the steering knuckle by pushing the lever down.
9. Remove the inner CV joint from the gearbox housing by prying it with a pry bar so that the spring retaining ring in the differential drive gear, or in the axle shaft, is compressed and drowned in the groove.
10. Separate the inner CV joint from the intermediate shaft with light blows with a plastic hammer.
11. Remove the axle shaft from the differential (or from an intermediate shaft).
Installation
12. Establish a new spring ring in a flute on splined part of a semiaxis.
13. If the axle shaft is inserted into the gearbox, then lubricate the lips of the stuffing box and the sealed part of the axle shaft with low-viscosity oil.
14. If the axle shaft section is installed on the intermediate shaft, then lubricate with refractory grease, then wipe the grease in the groove for the spring ring and from part of the splines (every 2-3 slots), to provide air access.
15. Install the CV joints until they click (this ensures the correct fit of the spring rings).
16. Next, the assembly is performed in the reverse order. Tighten all suspension mounts that have been disassembled to the torques specified in the technical data (see Chap. 8). On 6-cylinder Odysseys, replace the ball joint key. Replace the axle shaft nut, which is tightened to 245 Nm.
