Due to the complexity of the nature of the work and the need to use special equipment, it would be best to entrust the maintenance of valves, their guide bushings and seats to the car service personnel.
The owner of the car can carry out procedures such as disassembly of the head, initial cleaning and checking the condition of the components of the valve mechanism on his own. Then the head should be assembled and delivered for professional service to a car service workshop. This will usually provide a fairly clear idea of the scope of the work to be done and a rough list of required replacement parts can be prepared.
The workshop specialists will remove the valves and valve springs from the head and make the necessary refurbishment or replacement of worn components (valves, their seats, guide sleeves, springs, spring plates and crackers of split locks). It is mandatory to replace the oil seals. After assembling the components, the installation height of the valve springs will be checked. If necessary, specialists will make a groove of the head in order to restore the flatness of its mating surface.
After a professional head repair is completed, it is usually in the same condition as new. Before installing on the engine, do not be too lazy to thoroughly clean the head again, completely removing metal filings, traces of abrasive and other small industrial debris from all its cavities and channels. Blow out all channels and openings with compressed air (don't forget to wear safety glasses).
