Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Mark wires and hoses and disconnect them from the distributor.
3. Look for a raised mark on the distributor cap (as a number or letter), indicating the location of the BB terminal of the spark plug wire of the first cylinder. If the cover is not equipped with this kind of marking, find the terminal by walking up to it along the wire from the candle of the first cylinder, and put the appropriate mark on your own.
4. Remove the cover from the distributor (see chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance) and turn the crankshaft so that the slider turns with its nose towards the position of the spark plug wire terminal of the first cylinder on the cover (see the description of the procedure for bringing the engine to the TDC position in Chapter Engine).
5. Apply on the edge of the distributor housing, directly opposite the nose of the slider parallel to the axis of the latter, an orientation mark (if the slider has multiple spouts, select the center one). Also mark the seating position of the distributor base on the engine.
6. Give clamping bolt (s) and remove the distributor from the engine by pulling it strictly vertically upwards.
Attention! In order to avoid nullifying the efforts for applying installation marks, do not allow the crankshaft to be rotated after the ignition distributor has been removed from the engine!
Installation
Note. If the crankshaft was allowed to rotate with the ignition distributor removed from the engine, the engine should be brought to the TDC position of the first cylinder (see the relevant Chapter Section Engine) and when installing the distributor, achieve the appropriate position of its slider.
1. Put a new sealing ring on the distributor body.
2. Carefully place the distributor into the receptacle in the cylinder head. Achieve the alignment of the landing marks applied during the dismantling process.
Note. The protrusions on the end of the distributor shaft and the reciprocal grooves in the end of the camshaft have an asymmetric arrangement, which eliminates the possibility of installing the distributor with a turn of 180°.
3. If it is not possible to completely seat the distributor, first of all, make sure that the landing marks are aligned correctly, then ensure that the slider is turned with its nose exactly towards the mark on the edge of the body.
4. Loosely screw in the hold-down bolt (s).
5. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling. Check the ignition timing, then securely tighten the hold-down bolt (s) distributor mounts on the engine.
