To ensure the best performance and economy of your engine, it needs to be tuned up regularly. While computerized engine management and the use of more durable engine components have reduced the need for ignition maintenance, constant tuning will keep your Honda engine running smoothly and prevent annoying minor breakdowns and underperformance associated with out-of-tune engine performance.
Laws in many countries require manufacturers to certify spark plugs in their vehicles to meet "issue rules" with a run up to 50,000 km. The service schedule reflects this by showing the need for mandatory replacement at that mileage. For a large number of cars, a mileage of 50,000 km is too long. Plan to check spark plugs and other ignition system components at least once a year. Check them every time you find deterioration in engine performance. Replaceable adjustment components are relatively inexpensive compared to the inconvenience of a car running poorly or suddenly not starting.
Systems need to be checked twice as often if the vehicle is used in difficult conditions such as towing, long idling, frequent starts and stops, or simply starting and driving problems. It is assumed that the normal maintenance described in Chapter 1, is carried out regularly, as it will have a significant impact on the results of the adjustment. All applied tuning steps must be done sequentially as the result is cumulative.
In the event that the tuning or emission specifications on your Honda's engine bay plate do not match the tables "Customization Specifications", given in this Section, you must follow the recommendations on the label. The label often reflects innovations and changes that have taken place in production.
