Special tools are sometimes necessary for a particular job or recommended to make it easier. Their use is kept to a minimum. When a special tool is specified, reference will be made to the number given to it by the manufacturer. Where possible, a drawing of such a tool will be provided so that an equivalent replacement can be selected.
It is usually avoided to use special factory tools for repair procedures, as they are not always available to self-repairing car enthusiasts.
When it is possible to do the job with the normal tools available, this will be indicated, but sometimes, a special tool designed to perform certain functions must be used. Before replacing with another tool, you must ensure that neither your safety nor the condition of the vehicle will be compromised.
When reading the repair procedures, pay attention to the illustrations. You can figure out that some factory special tool 0000-XYZ is nothing more than just a bearing puller. If you could correctly identify one of the tool sizes or types, you can use an equivalent tool from a different manufacturer. Pay attention to the word "equivalent" - it means equivalent for any function. Use of an unsuitable tool may cause serious injury or damage.
Some special tools are commercially available (made in tool factories). Others must be purchased from a Honda dealer; a large number of factory tools are numbered and can be ordered through auto parts dealers.
