All models without airbags
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Remove the decorative cover from the steering wheel. Disconnect the necessary electrical connectors under it.
3. Make sure the steering wheel is set approximately straight ahead. Remove the ignition key from the lock.
4. Using a felt pen or something similar, make an alignment mark on the wheel and shaft. Remove the steering wheel lock nut.
5. Remove the steering wheel by rocking it from side to side while pulling.
6. Installation - in the reverse order. Be sure to tighten the steering wheel nut to 50 Nm.
1991 models with airbags
1. When working on a vehicle equipped with an airbag system, first "disarm" this system. To do this, remove the connector between the pad and the cable drum and put a shorting jumper in its place on the side of the pad (Red), which is stored on the mounting plate.
2. Remove the left service cover and remove the cover from the cruise control SET/RESUME switch.
3. After removing the two TORX bolts, remove the airbag assembly.
4. Disconnect the connectors from the horn switch and cruise control SET/RESUME switches. Remove the airbag connector.
5. Make sure the steering wheel is set approximately straight and forward. Remove the ignition key from the lock.
6. Using a felt pen or something similar, make an alignment mark on the wheel and shaft. Remove the steering wheel lock nut.
7. Remove the steering wheel by rocking it from side to side while pulling.
For installation:
8. Center the cable drum:
- a. Rotate the drum clockwise until it stops.
- b. Turn it counterclockwise about 2 turns until the yellow tooth of the gear is aligned with the mark on the cover and the arrow on the drum is pointing up.
9. Install the steering wheel. Tighten the nut to 50 Nm.
10. Insert cruise control SET/RESUME connector and airbag connector.
11. Connect the horn connector.
12. Install airbag assembly using new TORX bolts. Tighten them to 10 Nm.
13. Install the cruise control SET/RESUME switch cover and left service cover.
14. Disconnect the shorting jumper from the airbag harness. Connect the pad to the cable drum.
15. Place the shorting jumper in its storage location on the mounting plate and install the plate.
16. Connect the wires to connect the battery; first - positive. Turn on the ignition; check the correct operation of the security warning pump. Make sure the horn and cruise control buttons work. Turn the steering wheel counterclockwise; check that the yellow tooth is aligned with the mark.
